Frequently Asked Questions
What is a hair transplant?
A hair transplant is a surgical procedure where hair follicles are moved from one area (typically the back or sides of the head) to a bald or thinning area. It's primarily used to treat male and female pattern baldness.
What are the different types of hair transplant techniques?
The two main techniques are FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction), where individual follicles are extracted and transplanted, and FUT (Follicular Unit Transplantation), which involves removing a strip of scalp to extract follicles. Our doctor uses the more advanced Sapphire FUE technique.
Read more about it here.
What is FUE Sapphire?
FUE Sapphire is an advanced version of FUE where sapphire blades are used to make precise, smaller incisions in the scalp, leading to better results and quicker recovery.
Who is a good candidate for a hair transplant?
Good candidates are those with sufficient donor hair, realistic expectations, and a stable pattern of hair loss. Both men and women can benefit from a transplant.
How long does a hair transplant procedure take?
The procedure typically takes 4 to 8 hours, depending on the number of grafts being transplanted.
Is the procedure painful?
Thanks to local anesthesia, the procedure is generally pain-free. Some discomfort may occur after the anesthesia wears off, but this can be managed with pain medications.
How long is the recovery after a hair transplant?
Recovery time varies, but most patients can resume normal activities within 2 to 3 days. Full recovery and maximum hair growth can take 4 months for 40%, 6 months for 60% and to for full regrowth of transplanted follicles 12 months.
What is the difference between FUE and FUT?
FUE involves extracting individual hair follicles, while FUT involves removing a strip of scalp. FUE leaves minimal scarring and is less invasive, while FUT is often better for those needing larger grafts.
Will I lose the transplanted hair?
Initially, transplanted hair may shed within the first few weeks, but this is normal. New hair will begin growing in its place within a few months.
How many grafts will I need?
The number of grafts required depends on the size of the area being treated. On average, patients may need between 1,500 to 5,000 grafts.
How long will the results last?
Hair transplants are permanent. However, ongoing hair loss in non-transplanted areas may occur with age, but the transplanted hair will remain in place.
Are there any risks or complications?
Like any surgical procedure, hair transplants carry risks such as infection, scarring, or poor hair growth. Choosing a skilled surgeon minimizes these risks.
Can I wear a hat after a hair transplant?
You can wear a hat after a few days, but it's best to avoid tight-fitting hats during the initial recovery period to prevent irritation. You will be provided with a special cosmedica post-op cap that can be worn while your healing.
How much does a hair transplant cost?
The cost varies depending on the technique, the number of grafts, and the clinic. On average, in the US 5,000 grafts using the Sapphire FUE procedure will average $20,000- $25,000 dollars.
Are hair transplants safe?
Yes, hair transplants are generally safe when performed by a qualified, experienced surgeon in a licensed medical facility.
What is the success rate of a hair transplant?
The success rate of hair transplants is high, with most patients seeing significant hair growth within 6 to 12 months after the procedure.
Can women have a hair transplant?
Yes, women can undergo hair transplants, particularly if they have areas of thinning or receding hairlines. However, the pattern of hair loss in women differs from men and requires specialized treatment.
What happens during the consultation?
During your consultation, we will assess your hair loss, discuss your goals, and recommend the best treatment plan. We will also explain the procedure, costs, and recovery process. As well as allow you to meet or speak to past clients if you wish.
Can I resume exercise after the procedure?
You should avoid strenuous activities and exercise for about 2 weeks after the procedure to prevent swelling and ensure proper healing.
